[Clamav-users] Starting clamd [FAILED]

Hi folks

Im running CentOS 5, squid is installed, next step clam then dans.
However im having problems getting clam install ;

i've installed the following packages via RPM -i

http://packages.sw.be/clamav/clamav-0.93.3-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm
http://packages.sw.be/clamav/clamav-db-0.93.3-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm
http://packages.sw.be/clamav/clamav-devel-0.93.3-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm
http://packages.sw.be/clamav/clamd-0.93.3-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm

however when i try to start the clamd i get the below

[root@hwk-proxy-01 var]# service clamd start

Starting Clam AntiVirus Daemon: LibClamAV Error: cli_loaddbdir():
Can't open directory /var/clamav
ERROR: Unable to open file or directory
[FAILED]

The folder is there in /var

drwxr-xr-x 2 clamav clamav 4096 Jul 9 21:24 clamav

I'm sure this is a pretty simple error but its all new to me, ive been
hunting online but cant find any solution, can anyone help ?
