Dear ClamAV users,

this announcement is only relevant to people running ClamAV on
Debian/GNU Linux.

The policy of Debian doesn't allow to include new versions of a package
once the distribution is marked as stable.
In order to detect all the latest viruses, it's not enough
to keep the virus definitions database up to date. You also need to run
the latest version of the scanner.

Until now Stephen Gran, our Debian package maintainer, has been
distributing unofficial debian packages of ClamAV only from his website at
http://people.debian.org/~sgran .

In order to offload people.debian.org and offer faster file transfers,
now packages are being distributed also to mirrors which are part of the
debian-volatile project.

If you want to take advantage of debian-volatile, please replace the line:

deb http://people.debian.org/~sgran/debian sarge main

with one of the repositories of the debian-volatile project listed below
(choose the one closest to you):

deb http://ftp2.jp.debian.org/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main
deb http://debian.mnet.bg/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main
deb http://ftp.uni-sofia.bg/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main
deb http://mirror.switch.ch/ftp/mirror/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main
deb http://volatile.debian.net/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main
deb http://www.debianforum.de/mirror/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main
deb http://ftp2.de.debian.org/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main
deb http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main
deb http://ftp.timisoara.roedu.net/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main
deb http://ftp.sk.debian.org/debian-volatile sarge/volatile main

The full list of mirrors is available at:
http://volatile.debian.net/mirrors.html

[*] About the debian-volatile project (http://volatile.debian.net):

Some packages aim at fast moving targets like spam filtering and virus
scanning, and even via using updated virus patterns, this doesn't really
work for the full time of a stable release. The main issue of volatile
is to allow system administrators to update their systems in a nice,
consistent way without getting the drawbacks of using unstable, even
without getting the drawback for the selected packages.

Note that debian-volatile is _not_ an official Debian service. Use it
at your own discretion.

Best regards,

The ClamAV team (http://www.clamav.net/team.html)
